The Trip of Nový Jičín - Suchdol nad Odrou (11 km)

We will set out from Nový Jičín to the destination of our trip, to Suchdol nad Odrou.

The village of Suchdol nad Odrou is situated in the Moravian Gate chain and belongs to the protected landscape area of Poodří.
Its situation in the Odry valley offers both a view of the Odry Hills and a view of the foothills of Moravskoslezské Beskydy.

The village was founded by Slavonic settlers in the 13th century. One of the most valuable historical sights is the Baroque Catholic parish. The dominant of the village is a pair of churches - the Catholic Holy Trinity Church built in late Renaissance style in the 17th century and the Protestant church with Romanesque and Gothic historicist elements built in the middle of the 19th century. The dispatch building of the railway station is also listed. Suchdol nad Odrou ranks among important railway junctions.

Another fact worth mentioning is that in 1618-1621 John Amos Comenius preached in the village.

In the centre of the village there is a culture house and the village museum, where exhibits relating to the history of Suchdol nad Odrou are displayed. In front of the building there is a unique statue of Emperor Joseph II.
Nearby there is also the museum of Moravian Brethren, which records one of the important periods of the village history.

Enjoyment of sport is offered by a sports complex with football and handball pitches, clay tennis courts, a fitness centre, a sauna with a rehabilitation swimming pool, and a universal court for basketball, volleyball and football-tennis.

The local part of Kletné with a water dam has a recreational character; the area of 1.75 ha offers the possibility of swimming, fishing and camping including associated services. In the past Kletné was well-known for mining of galenite, scarcely also of silver.

Horse breeding has a longstanding tradition in the village. Every August the ride of Pony Express is organized in the village. Horse lovers can avail themselves of the breeders’ offers of rides in the environs during the whole year.

The village of Suchdol nad Odrou is connected up with cycle paths leading to the region of Nový Jičín, Odry and Fulnek.
