The Trip of Nový Jičín - Jeseník nad Odrou (14 km)
We will set out from Nový Jičín to the destination of our trip, to
Jeseník nad Odrou.
There are several interesting historical sights in Jeseník.
The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin was built in place of a wooden church, which burned down in 1710. After the fire Rudolf, Count of Witten, had a masonry choir of the new church built, the nave was built at the expense of František Rheinold of Andlern in 1752.
In front of the main entrance into the church there is a stone cross dating back to 1822, which also belongs to the culture heritage of the village. It is a work of local origin and evidence that the baroque sculptural tradition lived on in the 19th century.
St. Anne’s Chapel dating back to 1851 is evidence that the baroque architectural accidence lived on in the rural environment in the 19th century. The chapel is situated in the centre of the village, near the house No. 8.
The castle, built by Rudolf, free lord of Witten, had been just partly built and not finished by 1728. During the following years each of the owners contributed to the refinement of the castle building to a certain extent. The final shape was in the late baroque style. A castle park was founded around the castle; once it used to be rich in precious exotic trees such as the copper beech, the European black pine, the ginkgo tree, or the plane tree.
Old Odra’s Meanders are a natural monument, which belongs to unique landscape forms not only within the protected landscape area of Poodří.
In the past Jeseník ranked among the very flourishing regions. There was a steam mill with a bakery, a distillery and a brewery. Plentiful spring areas of natural mineral water are exploited even today under the trade name of
"Jesenická kyselka" (Jeseník Mineral Water) . You will find more detailed information on the boards right at the springs of Jeseník mineral water, where it is also possible to taste this mineral water free of charge.
Parts of Jeseník nad Odrou are also the small village of Blahutovice with discoveries of prehistoric settlement, the village of Hrabětice with a nature reserve of scarce flora, and the village of Hůrka, well-known for the possibility of sports gliding.
Jeseník nad Odrou, in the past called "small Vienna" by its visitors, has a rich sports and culture offer even nowadays.
Odersko Cycle Path, which is an extension of the long-distance
Moravian Gate Cycle Path, leads through the village.
